The book that kicked my butt into high gear

August 4, 2019

Totally not original or any kind of a secret – It’s You are a Badass by Jen Sincero.

Yep, you’ve probably heard of it. Skeptical to try self-help books? Then this is definitely a good place to start. It’s casual and easy to read, not too preachy or out there. Jen will incite a butterfly in your stomach. She’ll build an itch that you desperately want to scratch. Suddenly, you’ll be saying “why the hell AREN’T I doing what I want to do?!” with true belief that you’re capable of whateverthefuckyouwant.

If you’re struggling with feeling like life is an endless, squeaking, piss-covered hamster wheel… you might need a quick reminder that you’re in charge of your world, and you are a badass.

There is definitely a touch of woo-woo sprinkled throughout some of the chapters – and I get it – I had a hard time setting aside my disgruntled 85 year old war vet opinions, too. It’s easy to be immediately cynical and shut your ears. Call this garbage and move on with whatever you have been doing. But, wouldn’t it be a lot more fun to believe that The Universal Energy could be real?

No? Okay, no problem. I gotchoo. Just saying: People are out there living their dreams… living YOUR dreams. Why aren’t you?

This is the book that identified a ton of my fucked up core beliefs and inspired me to start a new online business. To jump in and be proactive in creating something new without freaking myself out. To stand for something I believe in, and (hopefully) let success follow my passion. To trust that I have any value to bring to the world.

If nothing else comes from my trauma recovery and connection project, at least I followed my gut and gave it everything I got. I mean, it’s pretty cool that I don’t give two fucks what anyone else thinks anymore. I couldn’t say those things before I read You are a Badass. (twice).

Might as well give it a quick read. It’s like $5 used. Give it a slow read – do the exercises and be shocked by what comes up. What else are you doing with your time?
